Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)
Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is a unique way to treat thin cancers, sun damaged, blemished and aged skin on all areas of the body.
By using PDT's non-invasive light technology, Doctors can treat a range of skin conditions in a fast and affordable way with minimal side effects and downtime.
How Does PDT Work?
A naturally occurring substance called ALA is applied to the affected area (eg. face, arms, scalp etc).
When applied to the skin, the ALA is absorbed into abnormal or damaged cells, bacteria and oil glands.
Once absorbed, an LED light source is focused on the treatment area for a period of time. When exposed to light, the abnormal skin cells, including some skin cancers containing the ALA, are selectively destroyed to ultimately reveal fresh, healthy skin cells, less acne, sun damage and improved skin texture.
PDT Benefits
PDT works by treating pre-cancerous lesions and fields, as well as some early cancers. This can improve the overall health. look and feel of your skin.
PDT provides significant cosmetic benefits for medical conditions such as sun damaged and aged skin, rosacea, acne, large pores and skin discolouration due to sun damage.
PDT is also very effective in treating medical conditions in areas that in the past have been hard to treat such as chest, arms, hands and legs.
