Wedge excision is a technique used to remove cancers from the edge of the lip, ear or eyelid.

It involves a full thickness wedge of tissue being removed and repaired with sutures to restore a normal appearance. Wedge excisions can be difficult to do well due to the need to repair multiple layers to maintain normal appearance and function of the structure.
